Dramatic sopranos are almost always misdiagnosed as altos in early life, due to the natural weight and massiveness of the lower register, and the awkward 2nd/3rd register break. It's wonderful to hear someone discover his or her real voice, with the right teacher. I've heard my teacher find 4-octave range dramatic coloraturas in women who had been singing alto all their lives, and she turned me from a light-lyric baritone into a spinto tenor.
